There are loads of new threats waiting to pounce as you surf the WWW and we are seeing them getting very sophisticated (As in they've learned to use a spell checker). The biggest security hole in your PC is the software you just don't notice or the update dialogue annoys (Flash, Java, Shockwave) so you cancel it (Sound familier?). Windows 8 Good or Bad

Windows 8 is nearly here and I thought that it was time to get my thoughts on paper. With Windows 7 we have a very flexible and stable OS – a far cry from its predecessor Vista which I think all agree was a complete disaster. This is not meant to be a review of the new Windows 8 just a pointer to whether you think you could ‘get on with it’. Firstly the new OS is much faster than 7 partly I suspect that a lot of the pretty bits like AERO have been removed and a lightweight touch centric interface has replaced it. There are some under the hood improvements as well but these will mean little to the average user. From a security or stability point of view there isn’t much to write home about either some minor improvements but no major leaps forward. Getting infected whilst surfing is the most common reason for having to have your computers cleaned by a repair company. People are still way too blasé about security and updates and assume that the antivirus software will keep them totally safe no matter what. Telephone Scams

Please be aware that we are seeing a high number of scam phonecalls at the moment. These usually consist of people claiming to be from Microsoft or other large IT companies claiming that you are infected with all manner of malicious software. Whilst this may indeed be the case they are lying as there is no way to tie your computer to your phone number to your name legally without a court order. These people are persistant and feel free to be rude but never never let them control you PC - you will regret it. If they ring hang up do not try to prove they are a bona fide service as they are very plausable. The average hit for this scam in the uk is around £150, not a small sum in these lean times, be vigilant. Further...
